Here our class learned about compositing images. I took a picture of a friend's empty pizza box and decided to use images related to the movie series, Harry Potter to turn the empty box into a "pensive." I learned how to use tools such as blur filters, and finally made a project that utilized many layers. I feel like I learned more about how to make shadows and where to place them than anything else.

This week I went to Menchies to take pictures of food. The lighting in the restaurant was pretty warm but very bright which provided a strong compositional contrast, however the temperature had to be adjusted later in the editing stage. I tried to take more macro type photos of the toppings for an interesting view of something people see everyday.
The purpose of this assignment was to start teaching us some basic and slightly more advanced photoshop techniques. We mostly used the clone stamp tool and select tools. I learned a little more about the jobs of photoshop artists and why they make so much money.
While on vacation during winter break, I took a chance to take landscape shots of the ocean. I applied my knowledge of composition to take planned shots, rather than random tourist shots. I had to figure out how to work with the bright sun reflecting off of the water, but I ended up using the light to my advantage. For this assignment we were supposed to take a selfie and turn it into a pop art type photo. It was intended to introduce the class to photoshop and give us some beginner practice.
While visiting a park named Philip's Animal Gardens, I took the opportunity to capture images of unique animals. During this shoot, I learned the importance of placement while taking pictures of animals. It seems like one key thing to remember is to capture the animals' eyes; it makes the photo much more interesting. I also learned how hard it is to take good pictures of animals because they're always moving around and don't always do what you want them to. Assignment Description:For our first assignment, we learned about the eleven elements of composition: The rule of thirds, texture, pattern. depth of field, symmetry, lines, framing, perspective, balance, color, and space. We were instructed to apply these techniques in our photos to create a more in-depth compostion. What I learned:To state the obvious, we learned how to apply these elements of composition to our work. Aside from that, I gained experience in working with the camera. I learned how to observe scenery from a photographer's eye. When you're stuck taking pictures on school grounds, the photo oportunities don't always come to you; instead, you have to search for the best photo ops you can find. I learned how to seek out better images through finding different angles and lighting, then applied what we were taught in class to improve the compositions.
Welcome to my Blog! My name is Kaitlyn, and I am a senior at Saline High School. Throughout my high school career, I have put a lot of focus into the arts. From Fundamentals of Art freshman year, all the way to AP Drawing and Painting this year. Because I want to increase the breadth of my skill, I also included other arts classes as part of my curriculum, such as Film Photography, and Jewelry. I'm continuing with Digital Photography so that I can learn some photoshop basics, and to get some more practice with a camera.
